BREWERY WASTEWATER 101:

INTRODUCTION

Are you fired up, ready to learn about brewery wastewater?

Generally speaking, brewery wastewater has a few common characteristics:

  • High in sugar
  • High in alcohol
  • Potentially high in solids
  • High temperature
  • Highly variable pH

* The terms ‘high’ and ‘low’ are relative to regular domestic wastewater that most municipal treatment plants were designed to treat.

It’s hard for him to fathom, but John has been doing general wastewater work since 1996, and brewery wastewater specifically since 1998. There was a 3 year break in there as he rode a bicycle halfway around the world with his wife, and then took some time to reorientate to life back in the US.  That  bicycle trip was back in 2010 and 2011 and John is happy to say it still has a wonderful impact on their day to day lives.

Anyway, welcome to the fun stuff. Sit back, crack a beer, and happy reading.
